It’s a Saturday afternoon and you are getting ready to bake a batch of your favorite chocolate chip cookies. No one else is home, so you boldly don your frilly apron and set out your ingredients (no recipe, you know this one by heart). And as you start baking, you begin to narrate each move you make, just like on television. Paula, Giada, Ina, Rachel… it doesn’t really matter who you are. But you have cookies to bake and a story to tell. Gosh, I wonder what my neighbors think?

ummm... long time, no posts, huh?

Goodness, I’ve been busy baking! From private events to fundraisers, birthdays, holidays, and more – I just can’t seem to put that whisk away. This has been the Year of the Cupcake. I devoured two recipe books from the sisters who created Georgetown Cupcake… and I am constantly playing with their recipes, creating fun flavors to delight taste buds. Take a look at a few of the things I’ve done.

There has been plenty of cookie-baking, too! New recipes have been tested and tweaked; cookies have been posing nicely for the cameras. Seems like every summer I tend to set unrealistic goals about posting on this blog (I am a teacher – September engulfs my life like a wildfire). I'll post a bit this summer, at least!

I am fascinated by good-quality, exceptional ingredients and the magic those ingredients perform in any dish. Sometimes I try to bake healthy, but most of the time I try to bake deliciously. I often share my latest recipes with the other teachers at work (this blog was almost titled “The Staff Room” because that is where most of my recipes are tested).

This blog is a work-in-progress. I might post regularly. Maybe not. I am not trying to cook my way through someone's cookbook! I just love to bake, and thought it would be fun to share some recipes and pictures with the internet world. Most of the recipes here are ones I invented or adapted... if I use someone else's recipe, I will always give credit.

Reasons Why I Like to Cook

I like creating. To smell the deep scent of a ginger cookie, taste the divine flavors of a pudding, or admire the beauty of a well-decorated cake, I think we all take satisfaction in our creations. I like experimenting. My science teachers would have laughed at that… I was never really good in science. However, if a kitchen were my laboratory, and we were testing cookies instead of mice, dissecting cakes instead of frogs, I’d have aced the class! Most of all, I like to eat. Admit it, so do you. And when you make it yourself, it just tastes better!
